Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square), narrow streets and squares are the center of attention at the Carnival of Venice 2008

What does the Carnival of Venice hold in store for us in 2008? Sensation! This is the 2008 Venice Carnival title. Plenty of sensations between "calli" and "campielli", the typical venetian streets and small squares. In the five neighbourhoods, the "sestieri", all of your senses will be stimulated: hearing, sight, taste, touch, smell and the most mysterious, the sixth!

As usual there will be the Volo dell'Angelo (Flight of the Angel), the Festa delle Marie (Celebration of the Marie), the Gran Corteo Storico (Great Historic Parade) and the Sfilata delle Maschere (Mask Procession). There will be fun, masks and entertainment everywhere to liven up the week of the Carnival of Venice from January 25th to February 5, 2008.

Fat Thursday and Mardi Gras are the special days of the Carnival of Venice 2008 but the height of shows, parties and merrymaking is during the weekend, on the 2nd and 3rd of February.

The days of the Carnival of Venice are magical. Masked parties held all over the city and in buildings and if you do not have a mask, don't worry: the mask shops propose the novelties of 2008, the result of Venetian creativity and tradition in papier-maché masks. In the various Venetian costumeshops you have but to choose from dozens of rental costumes to find the most original one to parade around St. Mark's Square or have fun in the many typical costume parties held in the homes and buildings all over Venice.

Between a party, a dance and a parade, delicious fritole and crostoli (frittelle (fritters) and galani or chiacchiere) are served in pastry-shops and coffee shops all over the city. These are the typical fried sweets of the Carnival of Venice. You absolutely cannot miss it!
